Sensei Dennis Scheib began studying Judo at the age of 8. After serving in the Marine Corps, he began competing in local tournaments which led him to training in Japan for a month at the Kodokan. He was a throwing dummy for the 1976 Japanese olympic team, and trained at the Tokyo police department martial arts training facility. Upon returning to the states, he moved to Atlanta, and became more involved with the local judo scene, opening Atlanta Judo Midtown in the summer of 1995. Sensei Dennis competed in many US Masters Open and National Championships and in the World Masters Championship where he won 10 World Masters medals. Over the last 60 years, Sensei Dennis has enhanced the judo community locally and also across the nation through tournaments and clinics. He considers his biggest achievement in judo promoting his son and now owner of AJM, Matt Scheib, to 4th dan. Dennis Scheib is a practicing criminal defense attorney, and still teaches his unique style of Judo at AJM.

Sensei Greg Pennington began studying judo in 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a yodan (fourth degree black belt) and along with his brothers he was an active competitor in the Konan Yudanshakai. Sensei Greg represented the region in the first and second national junior judo championships in 1965 and 1966 and started the judo club at Harvard University. Though he travels a great deal as a consulting psychologist, he is an active judoka still teaching at his home dojo, AJM. Sensei Greg teaches and embraces the judo principles of “maximum efficiency and minimum effort”, and “mutual benefit and welfare”. He looks  for the few small things you can do to continue to improve and while teaching how to support, encourage and protect each other on the mat. For him, judo has indeed been “the way” to continue to grow, learning and sharing along the way.
